Luciano Fagnola, a craftsman of books, has been working in the field of bookbinding for more than forty years. A pupil of skilful masters at the Salesian Graphics School of Colle Don Bosco, he was able to integrate his education with High Specialisation courses at the Centro del Bel Libro in Ascona, as well as with supplementary skills in cartodesign, printing techniques and the mechanics of working instrumentation.
He has collaborated with artists of international repute such as UgoNespolo, Guido Giordano, Francesco Casorati, Giuseppe Uncini, FerdinandoTexidor, Aldo Mondino and Francesco Musante, as well as with younger artists such as Irene Bedino, Luca Bosio and Samantha Farina. With them, he helped create contemporary fine bindings, which were part of international exhibitions in Italy, France, Belgium, the United Kingdom and the United States, and he has exhibited in personal exhibitions in some of Turin’s more prestigious bookshops.
He has been the owner of Bottega Fagnola since 1981, a small workshop which, thanks to its wide range of skills and versatility, operates in various sectors, from library binding to paper industry and from restoration to printing, not forgetting fine and design binding, which includes pieces that carry the firm’s exclusive and personal signature.
Master bookbinder and teacher, he combines his craft with teaching, both in order to bring the general public closer to the world of books, and to train young people in the profession of bookbinding and restoring.
He has passed on his passion for his work to his daughter Paola, today operating in various fields of training regarding book-related arts.
